Brits have a reputation for consistently moaning about the weather.  Although it’s hardly surprising given the unexpected Indian Summer we’ve just enjoyed recently when it’s supposed to be the midst of Autumn.  I’m all for a bit of sporadic sunshine in Autumn, but it does create havoc when deciding what to wear!

The problem is every Autumn morning begins chilly and requires plenty of layers but when the sun does decide to show up, we have to peel ourselves back out of our jackets and sweaters.

As we’ve endured this strange limbo where the leaves are turning brown but the sun is still out in full force, I thought I’d share 3 effortless wardrobe essentials to wear when the weather can’t decide which season it’s in.

Polo Neck

I feel as though polo necks have fallen out of favour of late but I still adore them.  In my eyes, they are a true wardrobe staple.  They’re ideal for layering.  I usually team them under sweaters, dresses and oversized tees.

Also, if the weather does take a sudden turn, I like to snuggle up in the neck to keep any chill at bay.  Trust me, it makes all the difference!

When your focus is purely on dressing weather appropriate, jewellery is the easiest way to bring some much-needed personality back to your look.

Much like with my clothing, I’m a big fan of layering jewellery.  Whether it be necklaces, bracelets or rings, I’m always of the opinion the more the better!

Again, much like clothes, layering jewellery is about playing with contrasting textures.  I love the combination of pearls, diamonds, turquoise and moonstones in all these different necklaces I have on.  The different colours and cuts of each stone adds some much-needed zest to what would have been a very boring neckline otherwise!

Oversized cocktail rings are my personal favourite.  I think it’s fair to say they’re my biggest weakness when it comes to jewellery.

I’m particularly partial to rose quartz and this Bloomsbury cocktail ring (check it out HERE) from London Road Jewellery has my heart fluttering!

The beautiful soft pink makes it super easy to wear during the day, so it’s not one of those statement pieces you have to save for special occasions.  In fact, as we’re talking of transitional fashion, this has to be the ideal piece as it works across the seasons, as well as day-to-night.

On a side note, all these gorgeous pieces of jewellery I’m wearing are from London Road who hand makes every piece in their incredible workshop in London which has been family run for 3 generations.  I was lucky enough to go behind the scenes at their incredible workshop a while ago.  If you haven’t caught that blogpost yet, it’s definitely worth checking out HERE to get an inside look into the skill and craftsmanship which goes into creating everything I’m wearing.

We all know I love a good fitted pair of jeans, I have more pairs then I can count!  There is simply no better wardrobe staple to see you through this transitional weather.

Stick to a mid-wash denim and regardless of how temperamental the temperature is, you’ll always be dressed appropriately!

Thank you so much for London Road Jewellery for sponsoring this post.  As always, all thought, opinions and weather-dressing tips remain my own!

Ahh I couldn’t agree more with you! This time of the year is beautiful but a pain when trying to figure out what to wear. It truly is all about the layers. I very much enjoy wearing polo, mock, and turtlenecks because I find it provides me with just a bit of added warmth. And, if it’s a surprisingly warmer day, I’ll wear a sleevless turtleneck because it allows my arms to be free but my torso to still be warm. xx

    • thatnewd November 26, 2018 / 10:15 pm

Ahh love the idea of sleeveless turtleneck, I need one in my life, hehe xx

The weather has been strange here too, I need a cardigan and boots in the morning but it gets warm at noon and chilly again in the afternoon. It’s so difficult to dress up every morning!

Thank you so much for these essential ideas! The weather here is at that in-between stage and it can be so hard to pick what to wear, so this will really help. I love the look of the layered polo neck, and all the jewelry pieces are beautiful.

In-between weather can be such a pain, especially if it goes from hot to cold to rainy all in one day! xx
