When Balmain Dreams Come True

At the beginning of the year, I had been really good at not spending and actually managed to save a few pennies here and there, which given that I’m a shopaholic is unusual for me!  However, as of recently I’ve majorly fallen off the wagon and made a few cheeky purchases.  One of was my new Dior bag which I chatted about in my last post (click HERE to read if you missed it), the second was an amazing pair of heels which I’ve unveiled over on my Instagram and third was this Balmain blazer.  They do say things come in threes!  Although sadly, the spending ban is back in full effect.

I have dreamed of owning a Balmain blazer for at least the last 10 years, way before Kim Kardashian has been rocking the brand, but even back then their blazers were so expensive and I just couldn’t justify it, especially as a student.

If you’re ever going to splurge on a piece from Balmain it should definitely be the blazer.  There is something about the way they tailor them and the incredible fit which no other fashion house, luxury or high street, has managed to recreate.

As I said it was unlikely I was ever going to buy one full price, so I’ve always kept my eyes peeled for a preowned one in good condition.  I’ve chatted about shopping for preloved luxury so much on the blog over the years, I even did a whole blog post dedicated to the subject HERE, and this Balmain blazer is the perfect example of why I’m such an advocate of it.

I recently stopped by Sign of the Times, one of my favourite consignment stores in London to drop off a few clothes and shoes I wanted to sell with them.  Obviously, while I was there I couldn’t resist leafing through the rails where I stumbled upon this blazer.  I was instantly enamored with it.  I adored the sculptured shoulders, the satin lapels and beautiful embossed buttons.  It has all the signature elements of a Balmain blazer but with a uniqueness and quirk to it.  The quality of the fabric is divine and it’s in immaculate condition.  What’s more, Balmain blazers are usually priced around £1200 plus, so this was a steal at £695.

This particular style comes up incredibly small compared to their Double Breasted Blazer which is much more boxy in style.  I’m wearing a FR38, which is my usual size and it is so fitted, especially around the arms.  Although when it comes to these glamorous style jackets, I’ve always had the view you should size down in order to achieve that elegant silhouette.  I have to be honest, this jacket is a little bit restrictive around my arms and back but I think it’s so worth it for the overall look.  I really like the cinched in waist this jacket gives and I even think it gives the appearance of slimming down my arms.

I’m so happy to have finally added a Balmain blazer to my wardrobe.  Now that I own one I can testify to the quality and understand why people spend such a huge amount of money on them.  I know I didn’t pay full price for mine, but even if I did I would still say it’s worth it, as it makes you feel like a million pounds!

That blazer is gorgeous and it looks amazing on you! I feel like Balmain blazers are kinda like Burberry’s trench coats or Chanel’s quilted bags, you know what I mean? And those shoes are simply beautiful and super different and unique.

Lucky to score such a fantastic find. I do like shopping for luxury preowned items but I stick to only purchasing shoes, handbags, fashion accessories, and jewelry (basically everything accept articles of clothing) because it so hard to accurately predict sizing especially if most of your shopping is over the internet. I also love Balenciaga’s blazers because of the exquisite tailoring.

  8. Ciara April 27, 2017 / 2:23 pm

I love this blazer on you! I too have been eyeing Balmain blazers for a while, but one at full price is unfortunately a little out of my budget for the time being. I’m definitely going to keep looking at consignment stores, and maybe I’ll luck out just like you did. I LOVE the unique style of this blazer. You are right about it still having the Balmain look even though it’s not the double breasted style. Such a great find – you are so lucky!

I know, I’ve been on the hunt for a while but it was definitely worth the wait. I can honestly say it’s worth every penny, so as soon as you get the chance to buy one, I highly recommend it! xx

Love your new blazer. Consignment shopping can be soooo dangerous. I love it, but I end up spending so much money. haha. This is such an awesome find and investment. The bold shoulder is great. I have wanted a double breasted Balmain blazer for awhile now, but each time I think of getting one, I tell myself to choose a bag I want first. The good thing about you having saved for a few months is that you were able to buy 3 things that you really loved and it’s kind of like you saved up for it, right? (or maybe that’s just the shopaholic in me talking, too lol)

Tell me about it, it’s so dangerous! Haha I totally understand about going for a bag but I definitely think you’ll get loads of wear out of a jacket. Sounds like we are both shopaholics! xx
