It’s my little Simba’s birthday on Monday so I’m dedicating this blogpost to him. If you have a dog you’ll probably relate to this, if you don’t, you’ll probably just think I’m a crazy dog lady (a title I hold proudly!).
Having Simba over the last 5 years has been the best experience. He’s been by my side through everything, the good and the bad. He’s never wavered in loyalty or unconditional love. His adorable puppy dog eyes and snuggles have the ability to cheer me up, no matter my mood. I simply couldn’t imagine my life without him which is why it pains me to see so many of these gorgeous and helpless creatures abandoned with no one to love or look after them. Did you know over three quarters of the world’s dog population is stray?
The Wild at Heart Foundation was set up by Nikki Tibbles and Nadine Kayser in 2015 to address the world’s stray dog population. The Foundation funds and supports animal welfare projects all over the world with a particular focus to reduce the world’s 600 million stray dogs. This is done through organising and sponsoring rescue projects, neutering programmes, awareness campaigns and education initiatives.
In many countries that have no laws against cruelty to animals, they often control stray dog populations by poisoning, hanging, beating and electrocution. To top it off, even in countries with laws against animal cruelty, there is still suffering. PETA estimates that up to four million animals are euthanised each year in US shelters alone. Here in the UK, Dog’s Trust research shows that up to 10,000 healthy dogs are put to sleep each year in UK dog pounds.
The Wild at Heart Foundation recently launched a fab sweatshirt line where 100% of the proceeds go directly to the foundation. Unsurprisingly, they’ve been a huge success and a number of the designs have sold out (although I believe they’re restocking soon).
I’m wearing a limited edition version they did for Valentines Day (find it HERE -it’s still in stock) and sums up exactly how I feel about my little Simba perfectly! It plays on Whitney Houston’s song, “I will always love you” and the other limited edition sweatshirt they did draws inspiration from Gwen Guthrie’s ‘Gotta have a job, if you wanna be with me’, but with the twist “Got to have a D.O.G , if you want to be with me” (see it HERE).
All the sweaters are 100% cotton and incredibly soft and cosy. They’re perfect for lounging around in at home or pair it with a shirt and some jeans like I have and wear it out to brunch or a delicious Sunday lunch. Next on my wishlist is this one HERE.
Simba would absolutely love it if you could help his canine friends in need by supporting the Wild at Heart Foundation and by adopting rather than shopping for your next dog.
