Shopping on a Mission: Discount Sale Shopping

I was chatting to someone the other day who was telling me she only buys things on sale and at first, I was pretty taken aback by it.  Firstly, I thought it meant she can only properly shop twice a year when the seasonal sales are on.  Secondly, even if she finds something she absolutely adores she’ll actually walk away from it if it’s not on sale.  Ouch! I LOVE a sale but I definitely don’t have the willpower to shop them exclusively!

However, the conversation stayed with me and the more I thought about it the more I realised it isn’t such an impossible task.  Sales are becoming more and more frequent these days.  I’ve noticed midseason sales have definitely become a thing, particularly on the high street.  Also, the rise of discount websites has been immense and if that’s not enough there are a surprising number of shopping outlets, not just my beloved Bicester Village!

Given how much this peaked my interest it led me to doing some research on where you can shop on sale all year around and the list is surprisingly long!  I thought I’d share it just in case anyone is interested or could even brave enough to commit themselves to buying only on sale!

Shopping Outlets

Bicester Village, Oxfordshire – This shopping outlet destination is the king of sales shopping.  All the biggest names have stores in this outdoor centre, from Saint Laurent to Céline to Gucci, along with a host of interiors favourites like The White Company, Ralph Lauren Home and Villeroy & Boch.  Plus it’s only located just over an hour outside of London.

Learn more about Bicester Village and see past shopping hauls of mine HERE, HERE and HERE.

Hackney Walk, East London – This area of East London saw huge regeneration recently allowing Hackney Walk to see the arrival of the likes of Joseph and Matches Fashion (FYI their delivery days are Tuesday and Thursdays) to Nike and Zadig & Voltaire.  They also have free panel talks in THE BOX which is the outlet’s event space.  Sophia Webster and Henry Holland have both spoken there.

London Designer Outlet, Wembley – I’m yet to visit this shopping outlet destination despite it being a short stone throw from where I live.  Stores include Gap, Adidas, H&M and Vodafone.  It’s open till 8pm every night allowing plenty of time to shop after work.

Cheshire Oaks, Chester – I visited here once many years ago and I remember being very impressed by the mix of luxury and high street brands including Polo Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, M&S and Next.  I bought my Mulberry Bayswater bag which is still going strong nearly 10 years later (check it out in a previous post HERE).

The Mulberry Factory Store, Somerset – In the heart of the Somerset countryside, where Mulberry’s It bags are lovingly manufactured, the brand runs a lesser-known-about factory shop. Prices are around 30-50% off for stock you’d see in store but there is also an area for factory samples, discontinued styles and seconds.

Freeport Braintree, Essex – If you like your high street this is the place to go with over 80 brands in residence from Kurt Geiger to Ted Baker.  Make sure you visit The Body Shop to make the most of their amazing discounts.

Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth – A great stop for contemporary labels, including Reiss, AllSaints, Jaeger and Lacoste.  Stock up on your workwear essentials with up to 70% off.

Sample Sales

RSPV, Notting Hill – Founded by stylist and brand consultant Pippa Vosper, RSPV is the concept store that allows you to shop last season’s designer collections at a fraction of the price. Brands take a residence in the space for a month, with names like Emilia Wickstead, Self-Portrait (which I shopped and bought a gorgeous jumpsuit for a fab price from) and Vilshenko have all featured.  Private appointments to view the collections are also available.

The Music Room, Mayfair – This is the go-to location for brands wanting to host a sample sale and they house all of the biggest names including Joesph, Erdem and Sophia Webster to name a few.  Located behind Browns on South Molton Street, the nearest station is Bond Street.  Be sure to keep an eye on their website for upcoming sales.

Online Sale Sites

All of these websites are either dedicated discounted sites or they have a sale/outlet page which they update throughout the year.  They’re all worth bookmarking but my favourites include The Outnet and Cocosa.

Great recommendations. I have noticed that sales are becoming so frequent now that I can see why people shop only in sales.

Hope you are off to a good start to the week.

I really need to go shopping but I can’t go shopping until I do a little spring cleaning. My closet is full but I still have nothing to wear. I love pretty things and I have a slight spending problem. If I love it I have to have it. I just purchased an expensive jacket, my boyfriend wasn’t too happy about it but I really needed it lol. I do shop at outlets and there is always some kind of sale going on so I agree it might not bee so hard. I love love love that purse.

I love shopping for a bargain but not sure I’d be able to shop sales exclusively either! A couple of other discount websites I like to browse for a bargain too are Brandalley and Secretsales 🙂 xx

    • thatnewd April 14, 2017 / 4:40 pm

I use to shop Brandalley years ago and then for some reason stopped but you’re inspiring me to check them out again! Thanks for the tip hun xx
