HOW I BUY PREMIUM DENIM ON A BUDGET

My daily uniform nearly always involves a pair of jeans.  I wrote a post last summer about why I opt for premium denim over jeans from the high street which you can catch it HERE if you missed it.

The truth is with denim you get what you pay for.  Although I do have a soft spot for Topshop and ZARA jeans, I find high-end denim has a better fit, lasts longer and washes better.  For a while, I went through a phase of loving Topshop’s Joni jeans but after buying them for the umpteenth time because they kept turning a murky grey shade after being washed 3 or 4 times, I knew enough was enough.

Despite my obsession with high-end denim and the strong belief you get what you pay for, I still won’t spend full whack on a pair of jeans.  Thankfully, I’ve learned just because you’re buying “premium”, doesn’t mean you have to pay premium prices.  Rather than pay the usual £200+, I impose a strict upper limit of £95, no matter the brand.

The great thing about denim is it’s such a wardrobe staple, no one can tell if you’re wearing “last seasons wash or fit”, which is a relief as a good quality pair of jeans should last at least a couple of years.  If you’re going to invest in denim, you want it to last as long as possible.

I successfully manage to stick to my strict budget by stocking up on jeans during the biannual sales.  It’s amazing how discounted they go.  Retailers I highly recommend checking out during the sales are Netaporter, Trilogy, Selfridges and Donna Ida.

If you’re buying online, particularly in the Selfridges sale, I highly advise the “buy everything approach” and return what doesn’t work out.  Often the more popular fits and washes do sell out super fast, so as soon the sale hits, you need fast fingers!

Alternatively, if you can’t wait for the sales, YOOX and The Outnet have an amazing selection of discounted denim all year around.

I have to mention The Outnet Clearance Sales which are pretty legendary.  There is one currently going on at the moment and the prices are insane.  JBrand, Mother Denim, Current/Elliott jeans to name but a few have been reduced to around £40/£50 which is ridiculously cheap.  You HAVE to check it out HERE.  Even if you miss out on the Clearance Sale, it’s still worth checking in on the site every now and again as they do get some amazing steals.

I hope this has helped in convincing you premium doesn’t have to mean super expensive and that it’s a worthy wardrobe investment.

You are so right! I have a thing for ACNE studios denim because they are so good but I refuse to pay the full retail price for them. I usually wait until the sales where I’ll be able to nab them for around 50-70% off the original price!

I agree, the high end jeans have the most comfortable fit but always comes with a hefty price. So thanks babe for this tip, I’m keen on watching out Netaporter.

  14. Jessica April 5, 2018 / 5:04 am

I couldn’t agree more. A pair or premium denim can go a long way, from comfort, to quality, to longevity. They could actually last for years. Anyway, those heels look stunning too dear! The color is such a head turner.

Thank you so much Jessica! You can’t beat some good quality jeans xx

  15. Lorna April 6, 2018 / 6:38 pm

I was gonna say The Outnet and Yoox have some amazing denim sales! I often shop my premium denim on Shopbop, which has great sales too! You can’t beat premium denim! As a denim lover and one who’s been working in the industry for over 10 years, owning a denim website (The Jeans Blog), I can’t tell you how happy I am that you said this! So many people don’t know the difference, not only in the washes, but with the fits. I have 2 Topshop jeans I like, but they give me baggy crotch and I never get that on my premium ones!
