IS LEOPARD PRINT A NEUTRAL?

As you can probably guess I am obsessed with clothes(!) and I have an overflowing wardrobe with everything I could ever need.  However, the other day I noticed one big gaping hole; leopard print.

Leopard print is one of those tricky things which can either look spectacular or tacky.  When wearing it you want to be channelling Kate Moss rather than Kat Slater (for those that don’t watch Eastenders, she is basically a very loud and brash ex-pub owner from the East London).

After being inspired by a fellow blogger who has a love for all things leopard print, I knew I had to go on the hunt and find myself some.  It has been revolutionary!  I feel like I’ve discovered a whole new neutral which I can pair with almost anything.

I eased myself in gently and found this leopard print wrap dress for £16 (find it HERE on SALE (in limited sizes)) which I thought would be a perfect wardrobe staple.

I love how it can be styled to look smart and work appropriate by flinging a blazer on with it.  I would happily wear this look to a meeting or for work drinks.

In contrast to this, it can also look really casual and really easygoing.  The other day on a rare sunny day in London, I paired it with my favourite basket bag and sandals.  It was the perfect outfit for the chilling in the park with a picnic.

Now that I’ve fully dipped my toe into the world of leopard print, I’m definitely planning on investing in a few bigger ticket items.

As this dress shows you can find some amazing bargains on the high street which still look stylish.  However, in general, I think it’s better to invest in good quality pieces to avoid that “tacky” look.  Even with this dress, up close and personal the fabric looks a little on the thin and flimsy side.

The truth is the higher quality the item, the better the printing and/or weave will be.  It is these small distinctions which elevate an item and make all the difference.  The investment pieces I currently have my eye on are HERE, HERE and HERE.

If you’re still struggling to succumb to leopard print and want to give it a try before you get too spendy, these are a few high street heroes HERE, HERE and HERE worth giving a go.

You look beautiful in this dress! I have a leopard print top but I’ve found it really hard to wear and don’t think it looks flattering on me. You’ve inspired me to give it another go though! Also, adore the Chanel shoes 🙂 Have a nice weekend dear!

It’s funny, a few years ago I never would have considered leopard a neutral but, at my last job, I heavily relied on it to act just as such! It turns out it goes with just about everything and it is a great way to spice up a look.

That’s a beautiful printed dress! I don’t have many leopard print pieces, but I do have a lot of leopard print scarves. They are the best accessory I think! 🙂

Hope you have had a wonderful weekend! We had a fun time at a kite festival on Sunday! 🙂

I think a neutral is based on what it goes with and I think leopard print pretty much matches with everything xx

You’ve definitely styled this leopard print to perfection. I really love it!
When wearing leopard like you I try to keep everything else simple, so the print takes the spotlight.

Leopard print is definitely a neutral! I’ve had a few leopard print pieces in the past, but I don’t think I have one at the moment – I feel like I haven’t found the perfect one yet.

I love how Kat is always references as a leopard print No-No! Yes, one walks a fine line with this feline print and I feel you’ve pulled it off very well. It’s all about how much leopard print you wear and how you wear your makeup, hair and complimentary pieces. I’d love a pair of leopard print sky high heels but I can’t walk in heels….erm…( :

    • thatnewd May 19, 2018 / 6:56 pm

Totally agree with you hunny! You have to style the rest of the look so carefully when wear leopard print xx

I absolutely adore leopard print and think it’s definitely a neutral base when it’s muted like this. You look lovely!
