I Love Mr Mittens x Wool and the Gang

I have been so excited about this post and I’m finally getting to share it.  As you may already know, I’m a huge fan of the Australian knitwear brand, I Love Mr Mittens.  Last year I wrote an entire post dedicated to the brand (read it HERE), I also called them my 2016 designer of the year (catch that HERE) and their beautiful knits have appeared countless times on the blog (HERE, HERE and HERE).  I think it’s safe to say I’m obsessed!

Although as with everything in life there are a few negatives.  Firstly, being an Australian brand it’s still quite difficult to get your hands on in the UK.  Icon AU (who specialise in Australian brands) and Matches Fashion are both stockists but I find their selection quite small.

The other problem is it’s exceptionally expensive.  Their knitted bombers, oversized cardigans and cropped sweaters retail for around £300-£400.  Although I truly believe they’re worth every penny, it’s hardly the type of purchase you can make at a drop of a hat.  Third and finally, their colour selection is very limited and can be a bit hit and miss.  Last season they had an amazing range, whereas this winter there wasn’t a single colour I wanted.

However, all of these problems have been resolved by one incredible collaboration.  The I Love Mr Mittens x Wool and the Gang partnership is quite possibly the best thing since sliced bread (in fact it’s even better!).  If you haven’t heard of Wool and the Gang the idea was born out of a move away from low quality, cheap fast fashion.  They wanted to pioneer fashion production that was made in a sustainable way and bring back knitting as a viable means of production.  They’ve since grown from strength to strength.

As part of the I Love Mr Mittens x Wool and the Gang collaboration, I Love Mr Mittens has shared two of their knitting patterns which also happen to be my two favourite styles, the “Cropped Cable Sweater” and “Cable Knit Bomber“.  For £114-£121 you can buy the pattern and all the wool required to make your very own I Love Mr Mittens knit.  That’s about 60% off the readymade price!

Not only that but the wool selection is phenomenal with 32 different colours to choose from.  I went for the shade Purple Haze and the wool feels just like the ones made by I Love Mr Mittens.

The pattern is easy to follow with step by step instructions.  I am going to hold my hands up and say I did get help making mine from a lovely friend.  Although the next one I buy I’ll be doing entirely on my own!  I slightly adapted the pattern as I wanted it to be more oversized and like a blanket.  I love that you’re able to change it up a bit to make it more to your style and totally unique.

I’m not sure my finished piece would make it through I Love Mr Mitten’s quality control as it isn’t 100% perfect but I don’t even care.  In fact, I love it all the more for its imperfections.  To everyone who has commented about my I Love Mr Mittens knits in the past, which is a lot of you, you’d be absolutely mad not to invest in one of these knitting kits from Wool and the Gang.  They are to answer to gorgeous knitwear at friendly prices and hey, you may even learn a new skill in the process!

Wow such a beautiful cardigan. The color is so reminiscent to Pantone’s dual color of the year last year.

Yes, you’re so right it is. It’s a little more lilac toned than the Serenity Blue but I love those Pantone shades xx

That dress is everything but I think I love Mr. Mittens too, I wonder how hard it is to get it in California. I can knit but I’m not sure I can follow this pattern, but I would love to try. You shoes are soooo cute.

That wool cardi is absolutely gorgeous, it does look like incredible quality and great with your dress. I’m not sure I could justify the price for now but it is definitely something worth thinking about and adding to the wish list.

I absolutely love the idea of knitting your own kind of unique clothes! I´m no good at knitting so I can´t believe how good yours looks! I would´ve never guessed that it was self-made, it looks like it´s store-bought. And even if it isn´t perfect close up at least it has that unique touch to it!

You look fantastic in this. I’ve just finished it in grey and you’re inspiring me to make another in blue. Can I ask, how did you adapt it to make it longer? Mine is very cropped which is fine as I’m short but would love a blanket style one like yours!

    • thatnewd January 24, 2018 / 12:49 am

Thank you hun! It was really simple, I just carried on knitting the body section and added another 2 of the cable details to the pattern. Hope that helps xx
