HMOSCHINO REVIEW & THOUGHTS

Its been nearly 3 weeks since the launch of H&M’s latest designer collaboration with Moschino and their Creative Director, Jeremy Scott.

I wasn’t originally planning on writing my thoughts on this collection.  However, the H&M website has just had a big restock (check it out HERE), so if you’re on the fence about whether to buy anything or not, hopefully, this will help.

Overall, I’m a big fan of these collaborations.  I know there is a lot of hysteria surrounding them and plenty of people scoff at how ridiculous and chaotic they can get, but as someone who looks forward to these collabs year on year, these are my thoughts on it.

Firstly, these collaborations offer the opportunity to own a piece of a luxury brand a lot of us wouldn’t usually be able to afford.  I applaud these designers and H&M for joining forces and offering it up on the high street.

Secondly, the quality is truly incredible.  Hand of heart, they’re not your usual “high street quality”.  Yes, the prices are often on the higher side, but in this case, you get what you pay for and then more.

If you take at the H&M x Moschino collection as an example and look at the fabrics and materials they use, it’s truly impressive.  Sweaters are 100% wool, hoodies and joggers are 100% cotton, the metal in the belts is weighty and the leather is incredibly soft and buttery.

Finally, if you buy the right pieces, they’re great wardrobe investments.  These collections face a lot of criticism due to the hype surrounding them as people label them a fad.  Undoubtedly, it’s easy to get caught up in the hysteria and overspend.  Having said that, some of my favourite and most worn pieces in my wardrobe are from these collaborations.

My Balmain x H&M leather jacket (see it HERE) and trousers (see it HERE) are still going strong years later and are my go-to pieces.  Also, my Kenzo x H&M silk shirt (see it HERE) is another staple of mine which gets ample wear.

This time around I managed to get my hands on the MTV embroidered joggers in grey, the cropped sparkly denim jacket, the leather trousers and the goldplated Moschino chain belt.

The diamante cropped jacket was a surprise hit for me.  I didn’t expect it to like it as much as I do.  I know a few people complained about it being too cropped as it ends way above your waist.  For me, it isn’t a problem, as I think it looks amazing paired with dresses.  With the sleeves rolled up it’s a really fun way of making an evening or cocktail dress look edgier.  I’m wearing an XS as it was the only size left at the time but I think it would look amazing oversized, so would ideally have gone for the M (shop it HERE).

I wanted the leather trousers as I wear my old Balmain x H&M ones SO much.  Plus, the quality is fantastic, so I figured if the Moschino version is half as good, they’d be worthwhile.  The quality definitely didn’t disappoint, the leather is beautifully soft and I love all the detailing.

Sadly on my bodyshape they just didn’t work for me as they were baggy in all the wrong places.  However, if you have less chunky legs than me, these will look amazing!  I’m honestly surprised these haven’t been more popular, as for the price, you couldn’t find a better quality leather trouser.

Lastly, I bought the MTV joggers which honestly speaking, I think are expensive for what they are.  To give them their due, they are a heavyweight cotton and I like that they’re embroidered rather than printed.  However, £59.99 is a steep price to pay for a pair of cotton joggers (shop them HERE).

I can’t comment on the chain belt yet (shop it HERE) as I’ve only just ordered and I’m waiting for it to arrive.  If you’d like to know my thoughts on it at a later date, let me know.

If you’re on the fence about whether to shop the HMoschino collection or not, I hope this has been helpful.  The restocked pieces won’t last long so snap them up while you can HERE.   My best advice is to buy pieces with fashion longevity and which offer great value for money in terms of quality and design, such as the leather trousers, statement dresses and accessories.
