I’ve spoken about my love of Fenty Beauty previously.  I even named it my makeup brand of the year in 2017 (you can read more about that HERE) and I’ve continued to love it throughout 2018.

I’ve pretty much bought everything going from the collection and I thought I’d share a few of my honest thoughts.  There are some products I absolutely love which have become must-haves in my makeup bag but others have been a miss.

Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter

I think it’s fairly self-evident Fenty Beauty’s Killawatt Freestyle highlighters aren’t for the faint-hearted.  They give serious glow!  However, there are some which are more restrained than others.

As I am a total magpie, I’m drawn straight to these highlighters and I’ve bought quite a few.  I’ve got both Freestyle Highlighters (in Trophy Wife and Metal Moon), the Freestyle Highlighter Duo (in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby) and one of the Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo (in Sand Castle/Mint’d Mojito), so it’s fair to say I’ve done my research.

I’ve found the Foil Highlighter Duos to be by far the most pigmented.  I usually layer the tiniest smidgen of both colours and it seriously packs a punch.  I tend to only use it when I’m either photo shooting or going out in the evening.

If you want something more subtle I really recommend the Freestyle Highlighter Duos, as the dual tones offer different looks.  One is more of a subtle sheen glow, whereas the counterpart is much more a bedazzling shimmer.

I would always advise buying the duo over one of the individual highlighters as they’re the same price and this way you’re getting two products.  Plus, I don’t think the single shades are as nice as some of the duos.

Invisimatte Blotting Powder

I really like this translucent blotting powder.  It’s finely milled, not cakey and keeps shine at bay.  However, if you already have a powder you like or you’re reluctant to pay £24 for one, I wouldn’t advise running out to the shops and buying this immediately.

It’s good and does the job very well but it’s not necessarily a makeup bag must-have.  In a nutshell, if you’re in the market for a new powder this is a good one to consider.

Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer

This primer hasn’t had the best reviews but I really like it.  Since turning 30 I’ve suddenly developed really dry skin and had to switch from silicon-based primers to more hydrating ones.

The creamy texture of the Pro Filt’r primer really sinks into the skin and provides a perfect canvas.  It covers dry patches and stops foundation looking patchy.

Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

When I first bought this I really liked it but as time has gone on I’ve found myself going off it.

I like the soft matte finish but I find it sits on the skin rather than blends into it.  Also, due to its consistency, it needs a lot of buffing.

I think it some cases, it highlights flaws rather than hides them.  This is particularly true of pores as it seems to sink into them rather than cover them.

The coverage is medium and buildable.  For reference, I’m wearing shade 120.

Cheek Hugging Highlight Brush & Full Bodied Foundation Brush

I’m going to keep this is to the point.  The foundation brush is a dud.  I don’t think it blends all that well and definitely doesn’t provide the seamless, air-touched full coverage it promises.

The highlight brush, however, is AMAZING!  It’s unique shape hugs the cheekbone and applies highlight in a way that really lifts your face.

Also, not only is it perfect for the cheekbones but you can also use different angles of the brush for different parts of your face. The slimmer side works perfectly on the nose and chin, while the tip of the brush is ideal for brightening the eyes and cupid’s bow.

If you’re a highlight fan, this brush is an absolute game changer!

Match Stix Trio

I stupidly forget to photograph these but they deserve a mention.  I have a love/hate relationship with the Match Stixs.

I absolutely swear by the contour stick.  It’s my favourite product to use for contour.  It blends really well and the cool undertone is perfect. It’s amazing how many contour products look muddy or are way too orange but Fenty has nailed the shade selections.

Now for the less positive.  As part of the Match Stix Trio set you get a contour, concealer and highlighter.  Unfortunately, the highlight and concealer really let the side down.  The concealer is very chalky and tricky to blend.  I find it moves your foundation around.

The highlight is also hard to blend.  It seems to sit on the skin rather than melt into it.

My best advice is instead of buying the Trio for £46, just go for the contour stix which is £21 and save yourself some money.

For reference, I’m wearing Trio shades Light 100.

Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

The Gloss Bomb is another product I stupidly forgot to photograph, but despite forgetting it,  I do really love this gloss.  As it says in the name it universally suits all skin tones.  It gives the most amazing shine and really plumps up your lips.

Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick

I don’t own a Fenty Beauty lipstick but my sister does, so I asked her for her thoughts and she absolutely raved about it!

The thing she was most impressed with was the coverage and comfort.  She mentioned even on chapped lips, the formula glides on smoothly with excellent coverage.  Plus, the staying power is great.

First of all, you most definitely do not look 30 babe! I was positive you were 26 but I guess I was wrong! On the second note, it looks like I will be in desperate need of trying out Fenty Beauty! I think the main reason I haven’t tried it out sooner is although so many people rave about it, I tend to stick to the brands that have been out there for a while and I know work for my skin. However, I trust you and your reviews so I definitely will be trying some products out. You my dear have quite the collection – almost every single product! Now that’s true love haha. Their lip products seem fabulous and although I’m not really a highlighter girl, after your fabulous review I definitely will need to pick one up. The primer also seems interesting and like something I would like to try. Maybe I can manage to get a sample of it at Sephora! We’ll see and I’ll keep you updated dear. Wishing you the best week ahead!

I still think that trophy wife is such a gorgeous highlighter but it is unfortunately not meant for my skin tone!

    • thatnewd September 4, 2018 / 11:58 am

Trophy Wife is so amazing but definitely not an everyday highlighter which some of the others are xx

  9. Uzo o August 20, 2018 / 4:47 pm

I think the primer has been understated …it’s a good primer. I yet to get my hands on the stix trio . Nice selection you picked out here and definitely suits your skin colour .

  10. Alyssa August 20, 2018 / 6:22 pm

I love the Fenty Beauty foundation because it’s the only foundation that doesn’t look ashy on my brown skin tone, but you are right, it can highly some flaws. You will really need a good primer before using it.

    Great review!

There is no question that these products are topnotch. It gives me sanity and peace of mind whenever someone writes about something they have been using for a long time. These are great beauty picks.

I’m so late in trying the Fenty beauty brand. I have a great excuse though – I’m not crazy about makeup. But I do wear it when I need to. You really gave a great introduction and info on the brand. And as always, you look beautiful.

    • thatnewd September 4, 2018 / 1:41 pm

I’m not usually a huge makeup wearer either but I promise you, Fenty is worth trying out! xx
