It’s no secret I’m a luxury-a-holic! I’m a firm believer in investing in ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories which offer great quality and eternal style. The majority of my luxury splurges tend to be my holy grail pieces which I rely on time and time again to elevate my look from regular to fabulous!
As I don’t have the fashion budget of a zillionaire, I have to mix and match high street with luxury. I think anything can look amazing if it is paired with the right pieces. For example, I rely on my Balmain blazer to smarten up a pair of Topshop jeans or a Chanel bag to improve a ZARA dress.
I definitely think it’s fair to say my luxury items have become my safety crutch when it comes to dressing. So, I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and away from my failsafe items by setting myself the challenge of pulling an entire outfit together for less than £100.
At first I really thought I’d struggle but I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. It turns out the likes of Matalan and Primark are really excelling in affordable fashion. This is what I spent:
Chunky knit – £40 | Shirt – £18 | Skirt – £8 | Boots – £16 | Backpack £16 = Total £98
You’ve already seen my orange chunky knit which I’m still OBSESSED with! You can read more about it HERE. This is the most expensive piece in the look but it makes a perfect statement and is definitely worth every penny!
The orange has sadly sold out but the pink version is still available HERE (although it’s selling like hotcakes so be quick!).
Other than the knit, my hands down favourite is this star shirt which was an absolute bargain. It was £18 and the quality blew me away. It’s 100% cotton. I love the fit and style as much as some of my more expensive shirts. This really was a great find!
I was uber impressed with Primark which is where my vinyl skirt and Gucci inspired boots came from. I’ve always relied on Primark for my basics such as tights and socks but never considered their clothing as I thought the quality was a miss. How wrong I was!
Unfortunately, they’re not super comfy. Where they’ve narrowed the square toe box, my toes get a little too squished. I wouldn’t advise wearing them anywhere which requires a full day of walking.
When I first set myself this challenge, I thought I’d have to compromise on style but in the end, I didn’t have to once. I know I will wear every single piece in this look again and again. In fact, I’ve already worn the shirt and oversized knit excessively.
I’ve definitely learned not to dismiss a full high street look in the future. Just because it’s affordable, it doesn’t mean it looks cheap and you don’t always have to rely on designer pieces to improve it.
